MASSACHUSETTS HAS SOME OF THE BEST HOSPITALS IN THE WORLD.
BUT THAT COULD CHANGE.

Question 1 on November’s ballot would apply rigid, one-size-fits-all staffing mandates in every unit of every hospital in Massachusetts, at all times. It would override the judgment of nurses and doctors and place care decisions in the hands of an unproven government mandate.

Question 1 means unintended consequences for every part of our healthcare, including:

  • A cost of nearly $900 million every year, according to an independent state report. Insurers have warned that patients would foot the bill through higher healthcare costs.
  • Skyrocketing Emergency Room waits, as ERs would have to limit capacity when nurses are at their maximum patient limit.
  • The loss of 1,000 behavioral health beds across the state, according to the Massachusetts Association of Behavioral Health Systems. We need resources for behavioral health and addiction treatment more than ever.

Question 1 is opposed by every major healthcare organization in the state, including 7 nursing organizations and over 100 trusted healthcare organizations
